I Need a Vacation

(Edited on August 10th to add an update)

So…that Jurassic Park retrospective is taking much longer than I thought it would. Once again, I have underestimated how long it actually takes me to make these damn things. I initially said I would finish this retrospective by around August. But now that the Jurassic World review has taken almost the entire month of July for me to complete, that clearly isn’t happening. I’ll admit that this has me slightly worried about how long the last four entries in the retrospective will take (especially given that one of them will be on a five-season TV show that I plan to tackle in a single article!). As passionate as I am about this franchise, I don’t want to be still talking about it when Christmas rolls around!

Luckily, my family has a week-long camping trip planned at a local state park starting next Sunday (August 4th). That’s why I wrote this update post: to announce that I’m taking a break. Indeed, I will have to take a break from writing on the blog since there’s no Wifi where I’m going. That’s good, though, because it gives me time to think about how I want to handle this retrospective and the blog in general over the next few months.

For instance, given that I’ve had problems focusing on more than one article at a time, I have only focused on writing Jurassic Park-related material since I started the retrospective in May. I wonder if I should start reintroducing non-Jurassic Park-related subjects into the timeline again. For instance, I haven’t done a “Cryptids of North America” article since May, and I’ve been really missing the weird and wonderful world of cryptozoology (the next state is Connecticut, for those who are curious). But I also worry that if I start a new project before I’ve finished this retrospective, I won’t be able to focus on it, and I’ll extend it even more.

But that’s not all that the retrospective is holding up. I’ve also almost finished my list of 2023 animated series I wanted to watch before starting the second half of my “best of 2023” list (I only have a rewatch of Hilda’s third season before I’m truly finished). Plus, I wanted to publish the only completed story I have written so far for The Divine Conspiracy on PrestonPosits sometime before the end of this year.

What do you guys think? Should I risk starting a non-Jurassic Park project or wait until the retrospective is finished and I no longer need to give my full attention to it? I’ll definitely be considering it while I’m away on vacation, in between spying on the local birds and catching up on my reading (Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsh recently published a book all about the series’ main villain, Bill Cypher, that I haven’t gotten around to yet).

Whatever I decide to do, I hope all the rest of you have a lovely summer, and I’ll see you all next time!

Update

What I’ve decided to do is this: I’ll continue focusing solely on Jurassic Park for the remainder of August. When September rolls around, I will start the “Cryptids of North America” entry on Connecticut, regardless of whether or not the retrospective is finished by then. Once the retrospective is completed, I plan to write a much more detailed update post listing all the topics I want to cover in the near future. That’s all for now, folks!
